Detox your heart

Many of us have found external ways to detox our hearts that help to bring temporary calm into our lives . Some of us let off steam by going for long walks in the country , others exercise or go on a sunshine holiday , have sex , treat ourselves to something new , see friends , or climb a mountain . Of course there are many more things you could list , things you do to maintain your sanity in a busy city or stressful life , and to help protect yourself . Honor the ways that you have supported your heart up to now , and begin to open yourself up to new ways - ways that can have far - reaching effects on your life. Imagine for a moment that we stop looking outside ourselves for happiness , and instead look within : we then lay the way open to discover more joy , peace , and satisfaction within ourselves . While a new relationship , a new job , a promotion , a new home , a child , or money can bring us some happiness , we need to accept that this happiness will not - cannot - last forever in our hearts . Our hunger for something more , our dissatisfaction with life , will arise again . Even if we are lucky enough to have all the money we need , or achieve our ultimate dream , when something happens that triggers our anger , hatred , or fear , our happiness gets extinguished in a flash . Yet this thing that has triggered our anger or upset might not have the same effect on someone else who has been exposed to the same situation or the same words . So is the cause of our anger within or without ? We must begin to own our anger and look within , rather than blaming all the external factors in our lives . I have learned that to get in touch with true happiness I must let go of my expectations . I need to stop looking " out there " for my happiness . The world owes me nothing . This might sound harsh , but it can in fact be liberating . It is at times a rough journey , but it is no harder than the journey we might be in the middle of right now . To begin the work of looking within , we will need to familiarize our selves with new skills and tools . With practice , can free us from the inside out are :

  • developing more awareness of what we already know

  • developing or enhancing self - love within our hearts

  • taking time to pause

  • loving ourselves

  • connecting with the breath

  • feeling our feelings

  • reflecting

  • repeating affirmations

  • chanting mantras

  • meditating
